Guest Tips

Select a room which is most quiet. J.P. Laurel Avenue happens to be among those highways where heavy 10-wheeler trucks and buses ply their route within the city’s streets, passing even during late hours of the night together with jeepneys whose engines seem always loud; select a room far from this side or at least on an upper floor higher than this side’s level. The view may just be over some parking lot or concrete wall but there shall have been much difference in quality sleep attained between both views’ directions! If only street-facing rooms are available, bring high-quality earplugs. Also check immediately upon entry into your the air conditioning unit because in older hotels like these, window type AC units can become noisy rattlers-ask to switch rooms right away if compressor sounds like lawnmower since it will not get any quieter during nighttime.

Eat breakfast in the hotel but do not make it a big deal. The food is okay and edible, anyway you are just minutes away from good food. Walk to Abreeza Mall for a huge selection of restaurants or better yet take a short jeepney ride to Penong's to try the famous Chicken Inasal (grilled chicken) which is staple of the region. Also Davao is fruit basket of the Philippines. You are a short ride from the Magsaysay Fruit Market. Do not bring Durian into the hotel-it is strictly forbidden in almost all Davao hotels because of the smell. Eat it at the fruit stands where they provide tables, gloves and water. It is a cultural rite of passage.

Also familiarize yourself with Davao City ordinances which are strictly enforced and cover your stay in the hotel. Davao is a No Smoking Public Places city. This includes hotel balconies, parking lots, sidewalks. You may only smoke in designated smoking areas (rare). Do not attempt to smoke in your room; the fine is hefty and the hotel reports you to have smoked! There is also a liquor ban(curfew) on selling and serving alcohol after a certain hour(usually midnight or 1:00 am). Plan your night outs accordingly so that being aware of these rules will give you a hassle-free stay while keeping you in good standing with locals who take pride about discipline and order int their city.
